Tourism Ministerial Advisory Board inaugurated

An eight-member Ministerial Advisory Board for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) was on Tuesday inaugurated, in Accra.

The Board, chaired by the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture would among other things serve as a backbone for the Minister and her Deputy in decision making to promote and develop the Sector.

The Board is made up of Mrs. Catherine Abelema Afeku, Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture, Dr Iddi Bari Ziblim, Deputy Minister of Toursim, Arts and Culture, Nana Oduro Kwarteng, and Professor Ameyaw Akumfi

The others are Oketekyie Nana Anim, Mr Charles Osei Bonsu, Reverend John Buah Kwofie and Madam Sylvia Assimeng Archer.

Mrs Cathrerine Abelema Afeku in her inaugural speech noted that government was committed to creating long term sustainable growth and development in the tourism, arts and culture, and to transform the sector by initiating programmes in partnership with the private sector.

She said the aim of the Board would be to mobilize the tourism, arts and culture industry, its stakeholders, and partners in the private sector to work together towards the development and promotion of the sector that was economically beneficial, environmentally friendly, socially equitable and culturally responsive.

The Sector Minister said tourism, arts, and culture was a significant and critical sector of the economy as it contributed positively to the trade balance through Ghana’s foreign exchange receipts, and sustains thousands of direct jobs.

She assured that as the leader of the Board, they would work with all strategic partners to give confidence to the sector and market Ghana the must visit destination.

“I look forward to working with the Board members whose backgrounds and impressive expertise will inform our work as well as develop and implement a strategy that will build on the foundation we set up in the 2017 budget to restore hope for Ghanaians”.
