Minister commends staff

Staff of the Ministry and its Agencies have been commended for their hard work, support and dedication despite the challenges confronting them.  The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Catherine Afeku noted that the commitment staff to assigned duties is enormous.  This has brought some success to the Ministry.

The Minister made the commendation when she met the staff at a durbar to take stock of work done so far and the way forward.

She stated the three priority areas of the Ministry, which she said included tourism training, Marine Drive Investment Project, and hotel accommodation.

According to her, new schools would be built in the Western, Ashanti and Northern regions to train people in the hospitality industry under the tourism training priority area. On the Marine Drive Project, contractors she said have cleared the site for work to begin.

The hotel accommodation priority area she said will see to the establishment of the Akwaaba Ghana Hotels with ten per cent government share and 90 per cent private share to bring down the cost of hotel accommodation for the average Ghanaian to be able to afford.

Mrs. Afeku touched on staff motivation, saying preparations are underway to take staff on tours throughout the country.

The Deputy Minister, Dr. Ziblim Bari Iddi, was happy that the current administration has been added to cabinet. This, he said is because tourism is at the centre of economic development and need to be part of the decision making.
