The Chargé d’Affaires of the Colombian Embassy in Ghana, Ms. Kelis Zulay Moreno Mosquera, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to discuss ongoing cultural collaborations and explore new avenues for strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Colombia.
The meeting, held at the Minister’s office in Accra, focused on plans for the upcoming Festival of Traditional Music, an annual cultural event spearheaded by the Colombian Embassy. Originally launched in 2023 as the Pan-African Cultural Festival, the initiative was developed in partnership with the Ministry and has since evolved into a vibrant platform for promoting both African and Colombian cultural heritage.
This year’s edition, now rebranded as the Festival of Traditional Music, aims to further celebrate indigenous sounds and rhythms that connect communities across the African diaspora. Amongst the Colombian delegation was Ms. Sefakor Afi Mensa Dartey, an Executive Assistant to the Head of Mission.
In addition to the festival, Ms. Kelis Moreno Mosquera extended an official invitation to the Ministry to participate in an International Book Festival scheduled for April 2026 in Colombia. The global event will host authors, publishers, and key stakeholders from across the cultural and literary sectors, and the Colombian Embassy expressed its commitment to facilitating Ghana’s active participation.During the engagement, Ms. Moreno Mosquera also confirmed Colombia’s participation in the upcoming Afro Gastro Festival, a flagship cultural and culinary event organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie welcomed the initiatives and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening cultural diplomacy through the arts, heritage, and creative exchange. She emphasized Ghana’s support for fostering intercultural dialogue and collaboration that bridges continents and strengthens people-to-people connections.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Joseph Kwesi Amoah, and the Director for Culture and Creative Arts, Mr. Divine Owusu-Ansah, who both reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to support upcoming projects and ensure Ghana’s full engagement in international cultural platforms.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of cultural cooperation in international diplomacy, with both sides expressing optimism about future joint initiatives that promote shared values, mutual understanding, and sustainable cultural development.
