Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to present a comprehensive proposal aimed at improving road safety and boosting the tourism sector. The highlight of the visit was the Association’s plan to establish a certified driving school tailored to the tourism industry.

According to the Association, the initiative seeks to address the increasing number of road accidents in the country, many of which they attribute to inadequate training and lack of professional standards among drivers. As transporters of both local and international tourists, the Association emphasized the critical role their members play in shaping tourists’ experiences and ensuring safety on Ghana’s roads.

“We want to establish a driving school not only for our members, but also to benefit the entire tourism and transport sector. With proper government backing, it could become mandatory for all car rental associations and their graduates,” Mr. Michael Sarpong, the president of the car rental association stated. The group also stressed the importance of incorporating electric vehicles (EVs) into tourism transport, positioning Ghana as a green destination and aligning with international climate goals.

In response, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie acknowledged the relevance of the proposal and assured the group of her commitment to engage relevant agencies, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, National identification authority, and the Ministry of Transport, for collaborative action. She also encouraged the association to support tourism branding by showcasing tourist sites on their vehicles and using local content such as Ghanaian films during long-distance trips.

“I appreciate the thoughtfulness of your proposal. I will convene a meeting with all stakeholders whose work affects and supports your efforts to ensure coordinated action,” the Minister said.

The Minister also highlighted the potential of eco-friendly tourism initiatives, referencing H.E. President John Dramani Mahama’s advocacy for electric vehicles as a progressive step towards sustainable travel in Ghana.

The Association presented a detailed document containing their full proposal for the Minister’s attention.
Source: Mabel Delassie Public Relations Unit – MoTCCA

Accra, Ghana – July 15, 2025 The Car Rental Association of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon.
