18th October 2025 \u2013 Accra- The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has issued a passionate call to the private sector, hospitality brands, and the creative industry to invest in African food brands, culinary tourism, and food innovation hubs, emphasizing the role of food as both a cultural unifier and a development tool.
\nShe was joined at the event by the Deputy Minister, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, as well as directors and heads of key agencies under the Ministry. Together, they toured the festival grounds, engaging with participants and exhibitors.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Afro-Gastro Festival today, the Minister highlighted how food intersects with music, dance, fashion, art, medicine, technology, and employment. She urged stakeholders to recognize its vast potential in job creation and cultural diplomacy.
\nAs part of the official proceedings, the Minister visited various food stands, interacted with chefs, and sampled dishes presented by participating countries.
\n\u201cThis is not just about nourishment,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s about building a platform where food becomes an enabler for growth across sectors. Food diplomacy is real, and it works.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event attracted significant international interest, with 14 embassies officially applying to participate, and several others expressing interest after registration closed. The Minister confirmed that next year\u2019s edition will be expanded to accommodate growing demand.
\nRepresentatives from the African Union Development Agency, a major partner of the event, alongside some supporting brands and several music artists, including Gyedu Blay Ambuley, Bessa Simons, Sherifa Gunu and Byno Ayoni, who all featured, were acknowledged for their support and contributions towards a successful event.
\n\u201cI don\u2019t take music for granted at all. We bow before you in celebration of food and what you stand for.\u201d
\nReflecting on her personal journey from an entertainer to a lawmaker, she emphasized the diverse opportunities that cultural platforms like the Afro-Gastro Festival can open up for young people. \u201cThe more you feel opportunities, the more you are inspired to try,\u201d she noted.
\nSince its opening, the festival has received overwhelming support from diplomatic missions and corporate partners, many of whom have already made inquiries about next year\u2019s edition.
\n\u201cThis has taken on a life of its own,\u201d the Minister added. \u201cI think people didn\u2019t believe it could be done, but now they\u2019re all calling. It\u2019s humbling, and it\u2019s exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Afro-Gastro Festival and Experience is expected to become an annual fixture celebrating African food, creativity, and innovation.
\nParticipating countries were presented with certificates of participation at the end of the programme to acknowledge their involvement, commitment, and contribution to the event.
