The announcement came during celebrations of Austria\u2019s National Day in Accra, where both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation.
\nRepresenting His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP), Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, lauded Austria\u2019s enduring partnership with Ghana and congratulated the European nation on its National Day. She praised Austria\u2019s global leadership in peace, neutrality, and the rule of law, values that align closely with Ghana\u2019s own foreign policy vision.<\/p>\n
Hon. Gomashie also reiterated Ghana\u2019s support for Austria\u2019s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (2027\u20132028), describing Austria as a \u201ctrusted partner whose impartiality and dialogue-driven diplomacy will enrich global peace and security.\u201d
\nIn his address, Austrian Ambassador H.E. J\u00fcrgen Heissel announced that the Austrian Embassy had found a permanent home in Accra and would soon commence full operations, including visa issuance and consular services. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana for its continued support and reaffirmed Austria\u2019s dedication to neutrality, peace, and multilateralism.<\/p>\n
Both speakers highlighted the nations shared contributions to international peace and security, with Ambassador Heissel commending Ghana\u2019s role in UN peacekeeping operations and collaboration through the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
\nEconomic partnership was another focal point, with Austria expanding investments in Ghana\u2019s renewable energy, infrastructure, waste management, and green technology sectors. Ambassador Heissel described Ghana as \u201ca preferred destination for sustainable investment,\u201d while Hon. Gomashie emphasized Austria\u2019s potential role in supporting President Mahama\u2019s 24-Hour Economy initiative, designed to enhance productivity, industrialization, and job creation.<\/p>\n
The celebration also underscored growing cultural cooperation, as Austria announced plans to open a Cultural Forum in Accra in 2026, its second in Sub-Saharan Africa, to promote creative exchange, cultural tourism, and youth development.
