Gomashie Highlights Diaspora Engagement as Driver of Year-Round Tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Accra, 12th January, 2026 &#8211; The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed government\u2019s commitment to deepening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora as part of efforts to promote tourism beyond seasonal peaks.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister made the remarks during a courtesy call by members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, who are in Ghana to mark the organization\u2019s 118th Founder\u2019s Day, noting that although the visit was arranged at short notice, she agreed to receive the delegation in recognition of the importance of relationship-building and sustained collaboration with diaspora groups.<br \/>\nShe explained that future engagements would be more formally scheduled to allow for broader participation by relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>Hon. Gomashie said she had received a brochure outlining proposed activities and indicated that the Ministry would review areas where her office, or Chief Executive Officer of any of the Ministry\u2019s 13 agencies, could be directly involved, adding that once the information is assessed, appropriate agencies could be delegated to participate, including opportunities for institutional briefings adding that follow-up engagements could be held at a later, mutually agreed time.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Diallo Sumbry, President and Chief Executive Officer of \u201cThe Adinkra Group\u201d, said the visit forms part of broader efforts by diaspora communities to support Ghana\u2019s tourism, culture and creative arts agenda.<br \/>\nHe disclosed that about 500 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are currently in the country for the Founder\u2019s Day celebrations, noting that diaspora networks have the capacity to mobilise significantly larger numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sumbry highlighted that beyond December, there are several culturally significant periods throughout the year that motivate diaspora travel to Ghana, presenting opportunities for year-round tourism promotion. He also underscored the importance of cultural connection in sustaining diaspora interest and repeat visits.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Ministry and the delegation expressed optimism about strengthening collaboration and leveraging diaspora partnerships to position Ghana as a year-round destination for tourism and cultural engagement.<br \/>\nSource : Delassie M.
