Abla Dzifa Gomashie, of the gospel musician\u2019s passing and announce his funeral arrangements.<br \/>\nReceiving the delegation, Hon. Gomashie expressed deep sorrow over the death of the celebrated gospel icon, describing his passing as a painful loss to the nation\u2019s Creative Arts industry and to the faith community.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and the entire creative fraternity, the Minister conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.<br \/>\n\u201cI was very sad when I heard that he had passed away,\u201d she said, recalling her long association with veteran musicians through her work with the Ghana Association of Phonographic Industries (GAPI) and later at the National Commission on Culture, where she served in various leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister shared a personal reflection of how one of Yaw Sarpong\u2019s songs profoundly touched her during a funeral in Sunyani years ago, noting that the song remains a source of spiritual strength to her.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen I am unable to find the words to say my prayers, I sing it in my heart and thank God for what He has done for me,\u201d she said, underscoring the enduring spiritual impact of the musician\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>Hon. Gomashie observed that the loss comes at a significant cultural moment for Ghana, following UNESCO\u2019s recognition of Highlife music and ahead of the country\u2019s Heritage Month in March, which will feature performances celebrating Highlife and other classic Ghanaian genres.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is painful that they are leaving us at this time,\u201d she remarked, adding that although Ghanaians often say \u201cGod gives and God takes,\u201d such expressions do little to ease the pain of losing loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bessa Simons, speaking on behalf of the family and MUSIGA, paid tribute to Yaw Sarpong\u2019s exceptional musical talent and leadership in the studio and on stage.<br \/>\n\u201cEverybody knows Yaw Sarpong,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are only a few musicians who can stand and direct music effortlessly, even if they do not write it formally.
