Kumasi – 26th November 2025 – The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on Ghanaian actors and filmmakers to use their movies as powerful tools to project Ghana positively to global audiences. She made the call in Kumasi as she began her regional tour of the Ashanti Region on Monday.
Hon. Gomashie, who first visited the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), said the creative sector holds immense influence in shaping how the world views the country. “Whatever people watch in movies about Ghana, they believe,” she told actors and film stakeholders. “You are the ones who will market Ghana. Showcase our beautiful landscapes and attraction sites so the world sees the best of Ghana.”
Her meeting with the actors, held separately from her engagements with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and later with representatives from the hospitality, fashion and allied sectors, highlighted the central role of film in national promotion. She noted that the “glass ceiling is broken,” with more creatives rising into leadership and political spaces. According to her, promoting the Ashanti Region is one of the ministry’s easiest tasks, as Kumawood productions already serve as a natural pathway for selling the region globally.
Earlier at the Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister was received by the Chief Director on behalf of the Regional Minister before proceeding to meet stakeholders from the Ghana Hotels Association, Ghana Private Hostels Association, Tour Operators’ Union of Ghana, Ghana Tourism Federation and the Ashanti Fashion Industry Network.
During the creative arts engagement, Bishop David Ofori-Adu, Chairman of Kumawood, thanked the Minister for meeting them directly and acknowledged the sector’s pivotal contribution to national development. He welcomed news of a model national theatre earmarked for the Ashanti Region and emphasized the need to complete the region’s Amphitheatre. He expressed optimism that President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to finishing uncompleted projects would ensure its completion.
Stakeholders also raised concerns about taxation, participation in exchange programmes, educational trips and other sector challenges. The Minister assured them that their concerns had been noted and pledged to expand training opportunities to strengthen industry capacity and enhance standards.
Hon. Gomashie’s regional tour continues with further engagements across the Ashanti Region. She was accompanied by Dr Jeoffrey Tamakloe, Director of Tourism, and Divine Kwame Owusu Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts.
