A delegation of German theatre professionals led by Frank Eoilner, the Technical Director of Kultur Ruhr, an arts and entertainment industry in Bochum, Germany, in the company of Mr. Henry Malm, Executive Director of the National Theatre, and Madam Korkor Amarteifio, Chairperson of the Governing Board of the National Theatre, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to introduce themselves and seek assistance in clearing donated theatre equipment shipped to Ghana.
The visit, which took place at the Ministry’s conference room in Accra, followed a long-standing request by the National Theatre for technical equipment from the German team. The professionals have responded by donating and shipping a full container of theatre equipment to enhance the operations of the Ghana National Theatre.
However, the group informed the Minister that the items are currently being held at the port due to customs duties. They therefore appealed for the Ministry’s intervention in securing a duty waiver to enable the smooth clearance of the equipment for the Theatre’s use.
Receiving the team, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie welcomed them and expressed her appreciation for their generosity and continued collaboration with the National Theatre of Ghana. She assured the team of her commitment to liaising with the relevant authorities to facilitate the clearance of the equipment.
The Minister emphasized the need to strengthen Ghana’s creative arts sector, noting that the country has no shortage of talented creatives but requires more platforms and resources to showcase their work. She called for continued international partnerships and support to develop the sector and enhance its contribution to national development.
The visit reaffirmed the growing cooperation between Ghana’s National Theatre and its international partners, aimed at improving technical capacity and promoting cultural exchange.
