he Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting ministries, Department and agencies to accelerate national development and economic growth during a working visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
She explained that the visit formed part of a structured programme to engage ministries, deepen collaboration, understand ongoing work, and identify areas needing support. Earlier visits she explained, focused on the Ministries of Health, Education, and Gender, Children and Social Protection, while the current phase targets ministries led by women, including Tourism, Trade, and Fisheries.
“Our approach is to come to you, to listen, to learn, and to work with you,” the Vice President stated, emphasizing that the visits were not inspections but opportunities to understand daily operations. She added that some engagements would be unannounced to provide a realistic picture of agency performance.
On funding, the vice president encouraged agencies to focus on growing national revenue rather than competing over budgetary percentages, noting that economic expansion would ease resource challenges. She also highlighted Ghana’s cultural heritage, tourism sites, cuisine, and natural landscapes as assets that must be better researched, packaged, and promoted. She stressed the need for improved marketing, hospitality training, language skills, customer service, and research to enhance visitor experience and national branding.
Welcoming the Vice President, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, underscored the creative industry’s strong potential to drive job creation, youth empowerment, and economic growth. She reflected on her long experience in the sector, noting that mentorship and sustained encouragement play a critical role in nurturing talent.
According to the Minister, the energy and creativity of Ghana’s youth present enormous opportunities for national development if properly supported. She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding opportunities within the creative arts and introduced directors and heads of the ministry’s 13 agencies, describing the Vice President’s visit as a clear signal of government’s support for the sector.
Reaffirming government’s backing, the Vice President assured officials that measures were being taken to address operational challenges, ensure prudent use of resources, and strengthen Ghana’s position in the African and global tourism and creative space.
The visit concluded with a call for sustained collaboration among government institutions to unlock Ghana’s tourism and creative potential for sustainable economic growth.
