Accra-February 17, 2026 – The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie has underscored the need for strict compliance with laws governing the commercial use of national symbols and monuments, stressing that permits and applicable fees are mandatory to protect Ghana’s heritage and ensure regulatory alignment.
The Minister made the remarks when Michelle Attoh, a veteran actress and the Marketing Director of Emerge Ghana paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to propose a collaborative heritage tourism and premium gifting initiative.
Ms. Attoh presented concepts aimed at positioning her company as an officially endorsed premium gifting service provider for the Ministry. The proposal includes the production of curated gift packs featuring replicas of Ghana’s iconic monuments in glass and wood formats, to be distributed at strategic tourism touchpoints such as airports, selected hotels, and major tourist sites to enhance visitor experience.
She noted that her company has been in operation for nearly two and a half years and had previously provided services to institutions including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Protocol Office. According to her, the initiative would not require any financial commitment from the Ministry, as revenue generated from sales would be used to establish a Heritage Tourism Fund dedicated to rehabilitating and improving tourism sites across the country.
Responding to the proposal, Hon. Gomashie welcomed the concept, describing it as “an exciting programme,” but emphasized the importance of formal institutional engagement. She explained that documenting engagements within the Ministry’s structures would protect the initiative, ensure continuity, and preserve institutional memory, particularly in the event of changes in leadership.
She further advised that structured collaboration with the Ministry would allow future Ministers to be adequately briefed on the progress of the initiative, while ensuring that all activities involving national symbols and monuments comply fully with existing legal and regulatory frameworks.
Also present at the meeting were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Joseph K. Amoah, Director for Culture and Creative Arts, Mr. Divine Owusu-Ansah and Director for Tourism, Dr. Geoffrey Tamakloe.
The engagement signals a possible public–private collaboration aimed at promoting Ghana’s heritage, strengthening tourism offerings, and supporting sustainable cultural development through innovative enterprise.
