Accra, July 7, 2026 — Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has urged newly appointed governing board members of key tourism institutions to ensure the prudent management of the country’s scarce resources, stressing that the survival and success of public institutions depend largely on effective leadership, accountability and transparency.
Speaking at the swearing-in of the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ms. Phyllis Engmann, and a member of the Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Torgbui Fiti V, in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister charged them to provide strategic direction while ensuring that public resources are used efficiently to achieve national development objectives.
“The survival or otherwise of these institutions depends to a large extent on you,” Hon. Gomashie said, adding that governing boards have a responsibility to promote accountability, transparency and prudent resource management while ensuring that the programmes and activities of their respective institutions align with national priorities.
She outlined the boards’ core responsibilities, including providing strategic leadership, strengthening institutional governance, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring the effective management of resources. She also urged the appointees to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
The Minister congratulated the board members on their appointments and thanked them for accepting the responsibility to serve the nation. She further commended President John Dramani Mahama for the appointments, saying they reflected the confidence reposed in the appointees to support the growth of Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts sector.
“I know you will work to justify the confidence reposed in you,” she added.
Responding on behalf of the Ghana Tourism Authority Governing Board, Chairperson Ms. Phyllis Engmann assured the Minister of the board’s commitment to working closely with management to advance tourism development and strengthen Ghana’s position as a preferred tourism destination.
“With the President’s vision in mind and our country at heart, we are committed to leaving a lasting legacy,” she said, adding that the board would support efforts to make tourism one of the country’s leading contributors to economic growth.
Torgbui Amenya Fiti V, paramount Chief of the Aflao traditional area, also expressed appreciation to President Mahama for the opportunity to serve on the Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. He pledged to use his position to promote Ghana’s image and preserve the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, noting that Nkrumah’s name continues to command respect across Africa and beyond.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, the Ministry’s Chief Director, Joseph K. Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, Director of Human Resource Management, Vitus Otto Langmagne, Director of Culture and Creative Arts, Divine Owusu-Ansah and the Ministry’s Internal Auditor, Gladys Kally.
