Accra, Ghana — January 30, 2026 — The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has organized an orientation programme for Chairpersons of governing boards of its agencies to strengthen corporate governance, improve strategic alignment, and enhance collaboration between boards and management.
Speaking at the engagement, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, emphasized the central role of board chairs in providing policy direction, safeguarding public resources, and ensuring agencies operate in line with national priorities. She urged board chairs to maintain clear boundaries between strategic oversight and day-to-day management while working closely with chief executives to deliver results.
“Boards must drive institutional missions through effective oversight, good governance, and compliance, while supporting management to perform,” the Minister stated, stressing that all decisions must align with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and the broader national development agenda.
Hon. Gomashie explained that the orientation was intended to assess leadership alignment across the Ministry’s agencies, review progress since a similar engagement held last year, and identify gaps in line with the President’s call for a national reset. She highlighted the importance of coordination among the Ministry’s 13 agencies, noting that the integration of tourism, culture, and creative arts under one Ministry requires collaboration rather than siloed operations.
The Minister encouraged board chairs and agency heads, particularly those within overlapping cultural and creative spaces, to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, reduce duplication, and manage shared responsibilities effectively. She also called on agencies to explore alternative funding opportunities beyond government subventions to improve visibility, sustainability, and impact.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Chief Director, the Director for Tourism, Dr. Geoffrey Tamakloe, described the orientation as a critical capacity-building exercise aimed at equipping board chairs with a clear understanding of public service procedures and governance responsibilities. He noted that while participants bring diverse professional experience, the public service environment presents unique challenges that require continuous learning and adaptation.
Dr. Tamakloe encouraged participants to actively apply their skills and expertise to ensure effective service delivery and justify public investment in the sector.
The orientation featured presentations by Michael Adu-Darku, Esq., of the Public Services Commission, and Surveyor Dr. Nana Agyemang Frimpong. The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, was also present.
The programme forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to deepen governance standards, strengthen institutional coordination, and ensure agencies work collectively toward shared national development goals.
