Accra, Ghana — February 12, 2026- “We are not taught how to cope when our parents or loved ones die. We are not taught coping mechanisms for grief,” Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie said, encouraging the family of the late music icon Bob Pinodo to hold firmly to their faith and remain resilient in the face of loss. “Although the scar may remain, the pain does ease with time. This difficult moment will pass, and you will regain strength.”
The Sector Minister gave the assurance when the family of the late Robert Kweku Idan, popularly known as Bob Pinodo, formally notified the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts of his passing and announced funeral arrangements during a courtesy call in Accra.
Hon. Gomashie emphasized that Bob Pinodo’s contributions to Ghana’s cultural landscape would not be forgotten, stressing that it is the collective responsibility of both family and nation to preserve and promote his legacy. She noted the urgency of documenting and safeguarding the stories, works, and relics of veteran musicians while they are still alive, lamenting missed opportunities to capture such histories.
Reflecting on grief from personal experience, the Minister observed that while society prepares people for milestones such as marriage and parenthood, little attention is given to coping with bereavement. She described Bob Pinodo’s impact as enduring and pledged institutional support to ensure his memory remains alive.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Musicians Union of Ghana President, Mr Bessa Simons described the late musician as a global ambassador who travelled extensively to promote Ghanaian music. He announced that the main funeral rites will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, and urged younger generations to explore Bob Pinodo’s body of work, including his popular hit Disco Dance, as well as his gospel repertoire.
Bob Pinodo is remembered as a pioneering figure whose artistry contributed significantly to the growth and international recognition of Ghana’s creative arts industry.
Also present at the meeting were the Ministry’s Director for Culture and Creative Arts, Mr. Divine Kwame Owusu Ansah; the Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Christiana Akrong; and other staff of the Ministry.
